Choices, Focus, Determination and Faith Matter Most

Like any noble endeavor, starting and sustaining a successful home based business requires many tangible resources; but more than that it requires establishing the right behaviors, attitudes and planning.  So how can you be successful?

First, set you goals and make sure you are motivated more by what goals you are moving towards rather than what you are you are moving away from. Lock your eyes on the future and all it may offer.  Looking over your shoulder will not make you more passionate about your new enterprise. Often people are so disenfranchised by their current situation that they do not take the necessary steps to be clear where they are going and to fully engage physically and emotionally in the new business “NO MATTER WHAT”.   Write your goals out and review them often.

Second, be decisive about what you want.  Success is more dependent on the choices you make than what skills or abilities you bring to your home business.  Choose decisively and act on those choices promptly and constantly. Doing so will accelerate your development of the necessary skills and abilities you will need over time.

Third, have a single-minded focus towards your goal.  The fastest growing businesses take the most direct approach. Gary Ryan Blair likes the the acronym of focus to mean Follow Ones Course Until Successful.  When our minds-eye wonders so does our determination and path to success.  Envision the end result, establish positive goal attainment affirmations and act out with the end in mind.  Post your goals on a vision board and declare your affirmations daily.  Keep your goals and affirmations simple and succinct so there is no room for interpretation.  Do not allow negative thoughts and words, especially self deprecating ones, in your psyche. You will certainly begin to believe them as fact. Ingrain your goals  in your daily thinking through positive regular declarations of successful action items.  Always remember…you are not defeated until you quit on your goals!

Fourth, develop a simple plan of attack and stick to it daily.  A plan my include basics such as  1. Why do I want to (not have to) accomplish my goals?  NEVER…EVER FORGET THE WHY!!!  2.Who do I need to help me achieve my goals?  Try and find a mentor(s) to help you navigate towards success.  3. What resources are required such as money, training, technology, office equipment, advertising, web presence etc.?  4. Where is my client, customer or revenue base?  5. How will I engage my target market base to accomplish my goals, and how much time do I need to spend doing it?  6. When am I able to launch my home based business?  As you establish your plan do not reinvent the wheel and keep it simple.  Talk to people that have made it work in your industry or company and do what the successful people do to make more money.  You will find your style and you will make minor improvements to the system, but don’t look for the comfortable way to success based on how you have done it in the past.  The effective way is usually ultimately the easiest way.

Fifth, take action.  Action is a great restorer and builder of confidence.  Inaction is not only the result, but the cause of fear.  Perhaps the action you take will be uncomfortable for a time. Perhaps you will have to course correct a bit.  But any action is better than no action at all.  Make sure the vast majority of your activity is in the pursuit of revenue versus organization.   Adopt a “Seek and You Will Find”  before a “Build It and They Will Come” approach.  Also don’t get in the mode of becoming too administrative or always planning to get ready to act and you never really get momentum or get important things done.  You may feel busy but you won’t make much money.  It’s easy to get distracted when working from home especially.  Fight the urge by setting a daily agenda.  Finally don’t avoid doing the hard stuff if it is the most important stuff.  Like Brian Tracy says “Eat That Frog” first.  Research the book and you’ll know what I mean.

Sixth, set achievable milestones and track progress of those milestones. Manage the important “means to the end” activities and the broader end result goals will get accomplished.  Later go back and look at the primary goals and see how you are doing over all.  Stay on task and do not course correct too soon, too often or too dramatically unless it is totally obvious that what you are doing is not working.

Seventh, accept that setbacks will happen. It’s inevitable. Remember a setback… is a setup… for a comeback!  When you run into hard times or you hit the wall to the point you think you can’t go on, go back and look at your “WHY”.  It’s is worth mentioning again and again, you only lose when you don’t start or when you quit.  Don’t let yourself get in the mode where quitting becomes the first or easiest option.  Change your tactics first and avoid losing site of your goals and your “WHY”.   You’ll never keep your self-esteem in a health place if you allow yourself to give up prematurely.  Your legacy will be most impacted by who you positively touch and what barriers you have broken through.

Eighth, always conduct yourself with integrity and act with others in mind.  This one does not require allot of explanation or convincing.  It is just a hard and fast rule of life or business.  Without integrity you are or have nothing that is of any value to yourself or others.  Don’t start any endeavor unless this is one of your core values no matter what.

Ninth, recognize and celebrate you achievements; even the small ones.  The journey is part of the reward.  A “that’a boy” or “that’a girl” periodically is healthy and important. To those close to you in your endeavor, don’t be afraid to say “look what I did”.  When you accomplish a big goal celebrate in a big way.  Have some fun and keep your sense of humor for goodness sakes.

Tenth and finally, be thankful.  Jot down at least 20 things you are thankful for…no matter what is going on.  Remember, somebody always has it worse than you.  If you are spiritual, thank God every day that you have been given the privilege of life itself and that you are bound and determined to do something positive with this gift.  Dedicate yourself that with the rewards  this life and your home based business provides you will “pay it forward” so others can learn from your journey.

Now Keep the Faith…And Go For It!
